Kyla Menconi, graduate from Alhambra in 2022, is now a junior at University Of San Francisco and I interviewed based on her most recent outing on a business trip to Washington DC. Read the Q&A for more information.
Q: What are you doing in Washington?
A: I am a legislative intern for Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) in his office at Capitol Hill. My days interning involve writing memos, giving Capitol tours, sorting mail, and writing letters to constituents.
Q: How long are you in Washington DC for?
A: I am in Washington, DC for the entire Spring semester.
Q: What experiences did you have while at Alhambra that helped you prepare for this internship?
A: I had my first internship while I was a junior at Alhambra. I highly recommend doing some sort of work experience while in high school to get a feel of the work world.
Q: What advice do you have for current Alhambra students about college?
A: It’s okay to not know what you want to do. I thought I had to be so set on exactly what I wanted to do after graduation, but plans changed and that’s okay. Everything will always work out for the best.
Q: What advice do you have for current Alhambra students about internships or the law?
A: Learn how to cold email! Cold emailing is how I got my first internship and how I’ve got most of my jobs. Have a solid resume and cover letter on hand always ready to send out.
