Alhambra High School has been existing for many years, since the early 1900s.. There is so much history lying on our campus that we don’t know. Some people say that Alhambra High School is the heart of Martinez. That’s why everybody knows everybody, because everyone who lives in Martinez mostly went to Alhambra High School. A few students here can say that their parents and even their grandparents have gone to Alhambra High School. I am proud to say I am one of those students, my own mom went to Alhambra for her high school years. She is a part of the class of 1995.
My mom tells me so many stories of the times when she was in high school, and hearing them makes me believe the huge difference between our generation and theirs. During my mom’s junior and senior year, she and her friends would go to every Friday night football game to hang out with other people. But they would tell me that she would never go into the game itself, she and a bunch of her friends would hang out in the parking lot, like tailgating, with other people from her class, and when the game ended they would all go to Denny’s to eat. Hearing all the stories my mom tells me how outgoing teenagers were back then.
I used to be embarrassed when my mom would stop and talk to someone from high school when we were out in public. It just felt like she knew so many people that I didn’t know and after the conversation was over she would always tell me “ I knew them from school” or “ we grew up on the same block and went to the same school.” But now I’m not embarrassed but happy knowing that she still keeps in contact with people from school. Martinez is known for having a family and friendly community, and now I can see why.
