Alhambra High School has a wide range of opportunities to get involved on Campus, there is something for everyone, which is shown in the variety of clubs at the school. One student who has taken advantage of the school’s club offerings is Mia Samonte. She decided to become a more engaged member of Alhambra’s community by joining two impactful clubs- UNICEF and AAPI.
UNICEF is an organization to help advocate and promote the rights and wellbeing of third world children. It provides the opportunity to learn about global issues affecting youth, such as access to education and healthcare. Mia enjoys being a part of the club because she gets to, “advocate for children who can’t speak up for themselves”. She was inspired by friends, who encouraged her to join. In addition to UNICEF, Mia is also an active member of AAPI at Alhambra, which is an American Pacific Islander club that celebrates the diverse cultures, histories, and experiences of students. Mia enjoys that the club allows those in the community to help make a difference.
Through her involvement in UNICEF and AAPI, Mia has not only developed a deeper understanding of important global and cultural issues, she has allowed herself to learn the value of teamwork and commitment. Her dedication to the clubs makes her strive for a more creative and positive impact within the school’s community and beyond that. Overall Mia says that being in these clubs “makes me feel more connected with the community”.
