Frank Reichert is the Honors English, Film and Lit, and English 9 teacher and waterpolo coach at Alhambra high school I interviewed on January, 22 2024. About his teaching career and why he loves coaching Women’s Water Polo and why he has chosen to dedicate his coaching career to Alhambra’s Women’s Water Polo team. Read the Q&A to find out more about Mr. Reichert.
Q: What made you want to become an English teacher
A: My first post-college job was as a journalist. After 13 years in the field, I wanted a change and chose teaching due in part to the fact I was already coaching water polo.
Q: What about coaching girls waterpolo makes you happy
A: I like coaching Girls Water Polo because it is such a difficult sport to play well. Many people can swim, throw, and wrestle with their opponent. But only a few can do it effectively. It takes a decent coach to get players to that spot.
Q: What’s your favorite part of being an english teacher
A: I love teaching English when a student suddenly gets what an author is presenting. I live for the “ah-ha” moment.
Q: Why did you choose to coach Alhambra Water Polo
A: I picked Alhambra because it’s close to my house.
Q: What’s your favorite part about Alhambra
A: Alhambra is a great school because it is the only comprehensive high school in the “Coolest City in California.”
